This course will provide an overview of assessment methods for children with suspected sensory processing differences that may also demonstrate suspected poorly integrated reflexes. Participants will learn how to generate a plan for evaluation of sensorimotor functions and reflexes using occupation. Participants will practice using assessment data to generate a hypothesis and link proximal to distal outcomes when generating an assessment plan for children with suspected poorly integrated reflexes.

Chapters & learning objectives
1. Assessment of Reflexes Using Occupation
This chapter will cover traditional methods of assessing reflexes, discuss the role of evaluating reflexes within the full sensorimotor evaluation, and provide information on how to use assessment data to generate a hypothesis of what may be causing a child’s difficulty in participation in occupations.
2. Assessment of Reflex Patterns Associated With Reflex Integration Using Occupation
This chapter will demonstrate assessment methods using occupation for suspected poorly integrated reflexes. Participants will gain information on other areas of consideration for reflex integration and use this information to determine treatment directions related to participation in occupations.
3. Using Assessment Data to Generate an Occupation-Based Treatment Plan
This chapter will provide information on synthesizing assessment data to develop a treatment plan for children with poorly integrated reflexes. Participants will learn to link proximal to distal outcomes and produce measurable, occupation-based goals.
